Iam planning to host a lan with some friends and wondered if there are any other games worth playing besides the ones we always play. usually it is CSS, C&C Renegade/3 , HL2 Synergy, Serious Sam 2 and occasionally Walkover / Soldat.
Iam looking for some strategy (if you can get into it fast enaugh) and action games preferred with coop (we are not that many ppl so thats a big bonus). I already considered Dead Space 2 and Bulletstorm but sadly MP does not work for cracked games.
Older games are welcome,too.

arez Starcraft is a good older Strategy game or Warcraft 3 if you want something a little newer.
L4D1/2 is good with 4 people. Play any of the campaigns. Versus may not be a good choice if you have 4 to 6 though. If you do play Versus, make sure you have even teams (player count). Realism Versus is REALLY difficult for first time players.

l4d/2 will be a bit of a problem because there are 2 semi-pro players and the rest almost never plays l4d -> will be boring for at least 2 ppl

Vietcong and Joint Operations both have Coop. BF2 Coop (Human vs. Bots) is fun too (prefer Special Forces, smaller maps, no tanks). Hl2DM (killbox) with 4 or more players is funny for a limited time.
Strategy games: maybe try CofH or DoW. If you prefer "slower" strategy games you could try any Age of Empires or Stronghold (Crusader).

CoD 4 has great multiplayer and CoD 5 has great coop. Don't play MW2 or BO though, I don't see them as worth the installation time. Splinter Cell Conviction has great coop (although very challenging) and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (GRAW2) also has great coop, although it is again very challenging.

Killing Floor is a must at smaller LAN parties!

i tried SSHD some time ago but never had any luck getting it to run properly and got tired of adding random registry keys so i gave up on that.

If you wanna play Serious Sam, get the old ones like Serious Sam The Second Encounter. Multiplayer works fine on cracked versions. Serious Sam 2 is pretty meh imo.

Thanks for all your tips, i will note some for later LANs. We ended up playing trough Magicka completely (its awesome!), CSS, Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 (i thought it had 4 player coop - it doesnt! we could not play story mode but thats okay) and in the end when the first dude left we built a giant penis in minecraft ... a really huge penis! it took us 2-3 hours and fucking creepers kept blowing up the balls (the right ball had a spawnpoint for sheeps in it ) .. penis was the main event of the lan i guess //edit : it just looks so epic when the sun rises behind it
