DUH of course it still has the normal windows state.. It's an addition for people who enjoy shiny things and will not move over to apple.. very nice and all, as long as they offer the option to disable it entirely I'll be happy

I'll admit that I wanted to play a "take a shot" game whenever he demonstrated the UI's capabilities. This was really painful to watch... I want EFFICIENCY not a clean,shiny,decorated iUI.I don't have 1000$ to smoke on some touch screen desktop,rather an extra 250-300$ for your OS M$. BTW the only part I liked was when I saw the good old Win7 UI which appeared for like 10 seconds,and that's not an improvement.

I wouldn't say that. I know someone who is very happy with a touchscreen notebook, Windows 7 and OneNote, as well as a Windows Phone 7 smartphone. Stuff is cool for these kinds of devices. But it shall very much GTFO of my desktop Windows.

This is where both Android and iOS simply fall flat. f) Patents. Did you know? For every Android phone you buy from HTC $5 go to Microsoft for patents. I'm pretty sure that these 43 (actual figure, that is) open patent trials of two dozen entities will all magically dissolve and totally won't brick the shit out of Android. Microsoft alone is already considering to increase their patent fees for Android to $12.50. That's 1/43. Congratulations. Even if only 20% of these trials actually result in victories for other parties, you can add most likely $100 to Android's costs. That would turn Android-based slates instantly non-competitive.

I was talking about most of the people. It can be some people's choice, of course.
I am not saying it's total crap. It's just that Microsoft can't show any distinct superiority on mobile platforms.
Why do we use Windows? You are not using it because it's more secure. The first OSX virus which requires you to download, execute and authorize it with the administrator password to infect, is going to get patched next week. Would you like to plug this flash disk into your PC without an anti-virus? I doubt you will and I know that people do doubt. Or you are not using it because it looks nice, you can skin your Ubuntu to look just like the same.
The reason is the functionality, games and applications available for Windows. And I say "available for Windows", not "included in Windows". You might choose Windows because it runs, let's say, Crysis and others can't, but the problem is that Crysis can't run on a mobile device. Even if you were able to run it, you wouldn't be able to play without a keyboard and a mouse. You like the Office? I do, I like Excel and my VB macros. Now try coding a macro on a mobile device, you can't and so it stops being a matter and Windows loses a lot of it's advantage.
I don't think it's easy for Microsoft to win this battle. Apple has 4 years of experience and Google has just a little less and they are getting better and better while Microsoft is busy holding fake iPhone funerals and not getting any more popular. Nokia deal is a good one, but it only covers the smartphone market. We should also not forget that Nokia is losing strength, if not dying. Microsoft is not going to have all of that share, everyone has a bite.

Double wrong. a) It was updated weeks ago to require no password. b) The update (Snow Leopard Update #3) was already released and circumvented within like 3 hours with another update of the virus. c) It's by far not the first virus. OSX.SpyOnion only required them 14 month to release signatures. Yummy yummy.

Not even the point. You can view and edit your documents on the go. That's after all what a tablet is for. And being able to build casual games addressing anything from your phone to your desktop, let's say that'd count as plus? You might fail to realize it, but WM 6.x was a huge success in the business phone market because it had a mobile Office version and Exchange integration.

2010 in phone sales: Nokia: 452 million units Apple: 50 million units
It's dying! Clearly dead!
Microsoft has more than enough partners for the slate market as well. They don't need Nokia for that. Plus, Microsoft is going to get a lot of that share. Just because there's the iPhone now, Nokia isn't dead.
