- Case NZXT GAMMA Classic - $35
- Power Supply Corsair 650TX V2 - $80
- CPU AMD Athlon II X4 640 AM3 - $100
- Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-770T-USB3 AM3 - $89
- Memory Kingston ValueRAM 2GB DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) KVR1333D3N9/2G - $15
- Graphics Card XFX 5770 - $105
- Hard Drive SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB - $61
-
- Subtotal (Chasis Only): 485$
-
- Monitor ASUS VW224U 22-Inch Widescreen - $150
- Keyboard A4tech KM-720 - $7
- Mouse A4tech X-750BF - $35
- Speakers Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System - $23
-
- Subtotal (I/O Devices Only): 215$
-
- Total: 700$
It costs more than you have, but imagine how shit this 700$ setup is and how shittier the 500$ setup will be. If you happen to rob a bank, you should get these instead so you can say that you have a real PC: - CPU Intel i5-2500k - $233
- Motherboard ASUS P8P67 Pro - $201
- Memory G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL (2x4GB) - $60
-
- Adds 290$ more to the original setup, bringing it to a 990$ total.
You should aslo get a Cooler Master HAF series chasis. I have HAFX: Additional notes: If you have an old chasis, use that one. It will save you that 25 bucks. Old keyboard and mouse? Another 50 bucks. Use stock fans (the fan that comes with the CPU) and get low amount of RAM. Also ditch the optical drive. Don't get a crappy chasis and a weak power supply.

If you want a really cheap CPU/GPU combo, you can get AMD Athlon II X2 260 and XFX HD-557X-ZHL2 both for 65 bucks each. (130$ total which saves you another 75 bucks.) If you are sure that you are never going to upgrade, you can also pick a cheaper motherboard and power supply: - Case NZXT GAMMA Classic - $35
- Power Supply COOLER MASTER Elite Power RS-400-PSAR-J3 400W - $30
- CPU AMD Athlon II X2 260 - $65
- Motherboard MSI 880GM-E41 AM3 Micro ATX - $75
- Memory Kingston 2GB DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) KVR1333D3N9/2G - $15
- Graphics Card XFX 5570 HD-557X-ZHL2 - $65
- Hard Drive SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB - $61
-
- Subtotal (Chasis Only): 346$
-
- Monitor ASUS VW224U 22-Inch Widescreen - $150
- Keyboard A4tech KM-720 - $7
- Mouse A4tech X-750BF - $35
- Speakers Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System - $23
-
- Subtotal (I/O Devices Only): 215$
-
- Total: 561$
The motherboard and the power supply might not handle the stuff you want to add later. At least I'm sure that you can lower this down to 500 bucks if you buy a 500GB hard drive, find cheaper speakers and get a regular mouse instead of a gamer mouse. (You are not going to game a lot with that anyway.) If you really really want to make this cheaper, don't even buy the graphics card and use the on-board ATI Radeon HD 4250. (That would save you 65 dollars.)

That CPU should be compatible with any AM3 motherboard. ASUS (my favorite), MSI and Gigabyte are good mobo manufacturers.
I would get ASUS M4A88T-M AM3 (80$). The other one I suggested is 5 dollars cheaper but it doesn't support USB 3.0. You might also want to get a case with USB 3.0 front panel connectors so you won't have to crawl back to get USB 3.0 speed.
---
About the stock PSU, some people say you can fry your rig with those, I don't think so. Many people use stock power supplies, just make sure it can provide what you need. (Around 300W and 400W should be fine.)
If you want to buy a separate PSU (which would be throwing away a bit of your money), you can rely on Corsair, Thermaltake and Antec. (I have a High Power PSU which is not very recommended but I don't have any problems with it.)

I think you can get RAM cheaper if you don't got for brand names (or at least not Corsair, there are also good brands that are cheap, like Kingston or G.SKill).

You can look at Newegg. ASUS M5A97 and M5A97 PRO have 6GB/s SATA ports but they only have 2 USB 3.0 slots and they are in the back.

the total cost was around 608$ / 428€ 2GB RAM in 2011??? This. RAM is cheap as hell, get more, at least 4GB. Also, if it's for Office you likely won't notice a difference between 1333Mhz and 800Mhz RAM.

And as soon as the APU's graphics part is being used there's a huge difference between 1333MHz and 800MHz. We are talking about a Llano here after all. But you are correct, he should get at least 4GB, especially as you'll be loosing 256MB or 512MB (depends on your settings) for the graphics.
