Right now we keep getting more Free2Play games...
Crytek CEO stated that Free2Play will be the future of PC Multiplayer gaming and Crytek is now developing their new title which will be Free2Play.
EA's CEO also stated that Free2Play Battlefield titles showed that PC can be as profitable as consoles.

And it seems more upcoming PC exclusive titles will be Free2Play than those which will cost 10-60$...

Here's a list of games that recently became F2P:
APB
Team Fortress 2
ArmA II
Age of Canon
Warhammer online
and other titles that I can't remember

What do you guys think? Is this the future of PC Multiplayer gaming or just a strategy for some game developers to gain profit from their not very succesful or less known titles?

All of the enumerated games are shit.
The free2play will be in the future but not the only thing.
I don't care about dlc and mp games anymore.
I personally care just about sp games that have great gameplay, story and graphics and like me there are many others.

Amen to that.

Though, Free to Play games need to have some sort of method to generate revenue otherwise it's pointless to have it. Spiral Knights has Crystal Engergy, TF2 has Items (and lots of em), APB has Weapons. Free to Play while good, is not the end all be all.

Look at Battlefield 3. Everyone's going ape shit over it and that game is $60 USD if not more and people are paying for it. Why do that when there are free to play games? It's the "Everyone's doing it" syndrome.

Facebook games like Farmville showed developers that, Free to Play or even Micro transaction supported games can work and turn a profit. It take a little dev time and money to make those games and then the money can be regained quickly. Where as a big AAA title like Battlefield 3 took a lot of money and dev time to make, and therefore requires more to turn a profit.

Also, Sprial Knights is fair if you ask me. There is no way paying players > non-paying players. Anything in the game is open to everyone. Pay to level faster/do more a day but not like Battlefield Heroes which turned into "pay to win"

Either that or the opposite... you'll have to pay each month for multiplayer access.

I don't want to live in such a world.

its pretty lame actually having to pay monthly fees to access certain content or having to regularly buy in game items i know we are not forced to do it but most of these games sucks when played in the free version.
