I uptated and cracked to 1.0.166 and same sh1t here.. after 2 mins steam error and disconnect :S
Waiting for updated crack?

From what I've heard, this is a widespread problem for some (not all) users.
It seems that people who have bought the legit game also have this trouble.
But the steam_api.dll does look to be the one needing cracked. Now if only I could remember how to use ollydbg on a DLL file... (he goes to ollydbg to have a look...)
