Usually when Steam does retail SID/SIM files they include all files except exes and dlls. They are of course downloaded when Installing it on Steam Probably to keep people from using the game before it is released. |

Most of all the Valve's directly products like left 4 dead 1 and 2 I tried to put the registered version .dll's but they don't work, probably i've some missing files |

L4D2 was updated since release, so using new dlls while the rest are old is not a good idea. |

cXhristian wrote: L4D2 was updated since release, so using new dlls while the rest are old is not a good idea. Yea, I remember a year ago finally getting the Left 4 Dead retail disc to extract. The client.dll was the only thing missing. I used various client.dll files I found on this forum and they worked, up through v3 of the DLL. Anything after v3 required updating the entire game along with it, and since you don't get the NCFs when unpacking from the disc, it gets tricky. 3xistence wrote: I tried to put the registered version .dll's but they don't work, probably i've some missing files I can only speak for Left 4 Dead 1, but if you found a client.dll that matched the files found on your disc, then I'm pretty sure it would work. Though, finding the right DLL is also very tricky to accomplish. If you have the original retail disc (not the Game of The Year one), you can give the client.dll within this package a shot: http://rapidshare.com/files/170824651/l ... ine_v3.rar DO NOT use the engine.dll in that same package. This package, linked from this thread, is very very old, when L4D was initially released 1 year ago when everyone used cracked engine.dll's. But, for a straight retail extraction (assuming original disc version), no crack is required and all you need is a client.dll that is ≤ v3. At least that's what I remember from a year ago, and I'm pretty good at remembering worthless things that nobody cares about. |

You are my salvation LordSte! I bought the first Left 4 Dead 1, not game of the year edition. I usually played a standalone version of some kind of crew (don't remember who was the releaser) but when Left 4 Dead 2 comes out i accidentaly erased the release. I tried in any kind to reinstall left 4 dead 1 and play it offline extracting the files from .sis .sim but it never worked (for the client.dll missing) Thank you! Now i can try another time. hoping to be able to install it and play it without steam. For Left 4 Dead 2 was the same, actually here in Italy it comes out the 19 or 20 November. When i bought it i extracted the .sis .sim but as L4D1 it don't work. After that i registered the product on steam ... and there was instantly an update patch. I think it will be hard find a way to install and play L4D2 without steam installed static void: I finished right now the translation (i already made a part of code so it will be fast recompile it...but it's better if you check it), just tell me where you prefer the upload (also by email, just what you want). |

3xistence Yeah, actually you can upload it here, so that any volunteers could translate the strings into more languages. But you see, I'll need your help, if I'm going to add some more functionality to the program. And, BTW, 3xistence or LordSte, should I make a kind of plugin that could fix this issue with L4D1 (download some necessary files, unpack 'em anв so on). I've already made up the L4D2 support plugin for the upcoming version (on the basis of Stryder's loader. Thanx, Stryder So should I do anything with the L4D1? I was actually unable to get any original images - only L4D2. |

I was actually unable to get any original images - only L4D2. if you need an original iso of L4D1 i can take it from my dvd, i'm checking right now what version it's: it says italian (not true...f**k retail version, only subtitles. ahahahahah), audio language: french, english, russian, spanish, german. And it's the first version which comes out. Right about now i'm unpacking it with your utility phoenix and i will try the patched client dll from the Lordste link. i will update this post after the first run. If it will works i suggest to add the client.dll for L4d1 For L4d2 i really don't know, when i bought the game (at the release date) there was instantly an update..so i think that retail version's very unstable and right about now i was unable to make it run only using phoenix and stryder loader. I will make a recheck tonight. If it works, also with random crashes, i will report it into this post. I will be cool have into your software all the things needed in order to extract and play it instantly. Ah, now i remember something i wanted to ask you: the background gradient in the listbox of phoenix: is it scripted or it's an image? i want to change it (at the last i was a graphic designer in past) After all, the most of people which haves .sis or .sim images haves the original product like me. I just hate the ssa license (why i eed to install steam in order to play offline and alone?!?) I want also to thank you again Static Void. Because thanks to you and your utility i was able to bypass a lot of steam retail games (mirror's edge, orange box (still have some trouble with it for missed textures (the source engine changes in episode 2 and portal and i don't understand what common files they needs in order to run propely) btw: i will make an account in order to upload your files...hoping there aren't ads in email after that thanks from the heart static void. [ L4D1 UPDATE ] Used the client v3 has lordste suggest but doesn't work after i tried with the engine.dll (ever in the client v3 zip) but nothing. Tried with steam_api offline and with revemu...nothing Ever the same engine error message after the intro movie "could not load library client" now i will try to apply the crash course nosteam patch that i used with my previous crew-release version. crossing fingers. [ TRANSLATION UPDATE ] Seems more complicated than i expected: i missed a file. StaticV, can i change also the .ini files? There isn't the LANG_ENGLISH code founded in main.lang etc..., so i think you send me "maybe" only the english INIs. If i can, i will translate the .ini files as well but i really don't know if the windows and buttons size needs to be checked with the compiler. Italian's a little articulated and "long" respect the english version. Also there are a lot of " ' ". working very hard on LangStrings.nsh ( Hope to end everything tomorrow. |

If you can chill for a few days until I get my disc back from my friend's house, I'll be able to recreate what I did. Haha, it's been there forever. It's about time I got it back. $t@t!c_V()1D wrote: And, BTW, 3xistence or LordSte, should I make a kind of plugin that could fix this issue with L4D1 (download some necessary files, unpack 'em anв so on). It would also be interesting to attempt a retail extract on the Game of the Year edition. I don't know anyone who has it. I wonder if someone has tried it before... |

LordSte OK, let the L4D1 wait . As for me, I've unpacked L4D2 and copied only the client/server.dll and Stryder's loader and it works fine - I've already tested it. With usual launch it will only work until the next map is about to load. 3xistence wrote: btw: i will make an account in order to upload your files...hoping there aren't ads in email after that That's for what?3xistence wrote: Ah, now i remember something i wanted to ask you: the background gradient in the listbox of phoenix: is it scripted or it's an image? It's scripted. And in Phoenix 1.2.1 I got rid of it - doesn't it look better? But actually i can make the listbox render the image on the background, but I suppose, it will actually influence the performance of the program.i want to change it (at the last i was a graphic designer in past) As for the translation: have you replaced or added the strings to the files i gave you? For the LangStrings.nsh it should look like this, e.g.:
And for the .lang-files it should be, for instance:
And for the ini-files, as I'd said, you should replace only the Text (but in this case you'll also need to translate ListItems) value of the Fields. Just like this. Well...I suppose, you're smart enough to guess from the context what things to translate

Maybe i just missing some files or steps, but can it be? step by step what i made 1)extract from original dvd 2)copied the client.dll and engine.dll from v3 3)run the game =engine error "could not load client.dll from library" I need the .ncf files or there are only usefull for steam and not for an extracted version of the game? now i will try with L4D2 but i can't understand where i can grab the client.dll (right about now i downloading the updates into the main forum) Don't know why it doesn't work i have an update called "Crash Course DLC Release And.1.0.1.5 Update by Aiden Warren" but looks it doesn't work applied to the extracted L4D $t@t!c_V()1D wrote: That's for what? Can an image influence the performance of the app? For the translation don't worry: i added the strings. $t@t!c_V()1D wrote: I've unpacked L4D2 and copied only the client/server.dll and Stryder's loader and it works fine - I've already tested it. But have you also applied some kind of patches/upgrade? |

So that's why I ask you whether it is needed to make a special plugin that could download that files and Stryder's loader to launch L4D2.-- Edit -- Quote: Can an image influence the performance of the app? Yes it can. I don't know how badly it will actually influence, but it will. Especially in the sense of going between the pages (e.g. Program Options and Main Menu)
