This is my first "noobish" post, but I need a quick help or guide. Ok, first of all: Where are located the .gcf files? I have Half Life 2 Collectors edition and I also downloaded Garry's Mod 9.0.4b (it seems) and idk really where to start. Ok, it's not necessary to have STEAM installed in my HDD to play the games and mods? It seems not necessary. I tried this: 1) I've installed the Half Life 2 in the following folder --> E:/GAMES/Valve/Half Life 2 Collectors Edition and the Tiny folder is in --> E:/GAMES/Valve/TinyLauncher 2) Now I try to run tiny launcher, and it's asking me the .gcf files.....but idk where to find them! Are they in the HL2 folder? or do I have to download them apart? 3) I just cancel because I don't know where the .gcf files are and the program just doesn't want to "run" again showing me the message: "Please read readme.txt for help" Any help please welcome |

When you install HL2 from a DVD, the GCFs = (the files containing the game files) are encrypted, they can't be used. You need cracked Steam to update and unlock them and after that, you can use them with cracked Steam or with a launcher like TinyLauncher. The GCFs are stored in (C:\Valve\)Steam\SteamApps. |

So..your whole point is that I MUST REdownload the entire game but via a cracked steam?? Because my game is a retail as you can know now, means it has folders already...that's why I can't find the .gfc files... After I get a cracked steam I would be able to have the .gcf files and then be able to play with the mods and so on (and obviously launch TinyLauncher correctly). The only .gfc I have is the "platform .gcf" in the steamapps folder. Also, do I need to update the normal and legal steam? because I haven't updated steam since the installation of HL2 CE...maybe I should? or not? I mean I haven't touched steam since it installed "automatically" in the folder I choosed. So, any suggetions or anything else mate? And thanks a lot Ressourector!! |

Folders already? There is no legit retail that is not in GCF format, so I don't really know what you have. If you have bought it, you have old GCFs of it, as I told you. To run the game without Steam, you need launchers, which use SteamEmu, and SteamEmu needs decrypted ( and up-to-date, if possible) GCF files. But it seems like you have a standalone release. Those don't work very good with mods, since mods need the newest version of the games. |

Ya it's correct..I have the Half Life 2 Collectors Edition DVD...it seems that's the problem. I'm going to get a new version of the game asap. Thanks anyway. |

Hello, I have installed last version version of TinyLauncher 2,0 and it does not work to me. I have steam up-to-dates and when I execute tinylauncher requests the directory to me where they are installed gfc, I give it but appears to me the message “must specify the steamapps path in tinylauncher.ini” and it does not work to me. Some aid? steamemu.ini [Emulator] BaseDir=C:/program files/tinylauncher/steamapps PreferLocal=1 OverwriteLocalCopy=0 SteamUser=UGL SteamPassword=truc TinyLauncher.ini [Settings] FirstRun=0 NoJunction=0 SteamAppsPath=C:\program files\Steam\SteamApps |

Start create shortcuts.bat create a dir named "shortcuts" with subdirs but with no file in them. I tried to launch "TinyLauncher.exe | 240" to play css but the amazing message "please read readme.txt for help" appears with a smile (irony) |

Ok, now works with css i give a try to another games, i used the key "|" (located at key "1") because | and l are very similar. However i cannot understand why when I do a new install of the tinylauncher and search for the path of the gfc files the program give the message: "the specified steamapps path doesn't exists !", the program works fine with the command line "TinyLauncher.exe L 240" but ... For all fucking newbies like me, to launch a mod try to put the mod in this folder: "@:\(where the fucking steam are installed)\SteamApps\UGL\Half-life" or "\SteamApps\UGL\Half-life 2", FUN |

I have a problem here: I have the Red Orchestra GCF files in the steamapps folder and the shortcut created. As I first time tried to launch the game via the shortcut, a small message said that the program is reading the CGF files (something like that), but after the message disappeared (it lasted for a couple of seconds) nothing happened. After the first try there even wasn't any messages. I tried to install MS VC++ 2005 Runtime but it didn't help. Do I have to get a new clientregistry.blob file? And if so, how do I actually get it? |
