I finally got me a new machine and can play Left 4 Dead. I got all of the files located in the Common folder, and the NCFs, and CF Toolbox says that Left 4 Dead is 100% installed and verified. I was thinking of playing Coop with my friends in LAN, however, whenever I create a server, it says:

"Disconnected. Failed to create a Session. Please check your connection and try again".

Nothin's wrong with my connection, I'm positive on that. I searched the forum and Google, and found tutorials, but all of them were for a Stand Alone version.
Can I please be advised as to that to do? Is there a workaround for LAN play in Steam, should I download HLDS for Left 4 Dead, or should I make a stand-alone version of Left 4 Dead?

Thank you :)

wait, are you playing on Steam or not ?

the usual method to play L4D on LAN is using the "map map_name" command to host a game, and the "connect ip" command or lobby browser to join a game...

Yes, I'm using Steam with SaSIO's UnDead Patch v6.66. I wasn't aware that I was suppose to host a game from the console.
So I just issue the map "mapname" command, sv_lan 1, and call out to my friends to join me, also using the console: connect 192.168.1.2:27015?
This can also be made available using the public network with my public IP address and forwareded port?

online I've never tried but it should work if you forward the right ports (and sv_lan should be set to 0 of course), on LAN it works flawlessly. LAN games are even displayed in server browser with RevEmu 9.8.3+, so your friends can also join your game from here (I advise binding a key to the "openserverbrowser" command in console). You could have easily found this information on the forum or Google though...

As I mentioned in the 1st post, I searched the forums, but found guides for Stand Alone editions of the game, I'm using cracked steam. I thought it wasn't the same deal :/...

You can use lobby to host the game with Smartsteam instead of UnDead Patch. open smartsteam.ini and make sure patchlobby is set to 1.
scroll down and under "lobby" where it says 500 = 510, change 510 to 560. now it should be 500 = 560.
now you can use game's lobby and invite your friend to join you.
