Post subject:  Switching from one account to another with the same content

Hi,

I got a lan party next week and I'm tryning to prepare a steam pack content. Usually for that purpose I copy games from my real account and I'm creating a pack with all steam folder content before 'torrent it' to all another gamers of the lan . All worked ok with revloader/revemu/ucl.

But this year we need online connection for some games. So I would use a patched steam like smartsteam for that purpose . I would create a different steam account like lan_1,lan_2,lan_3... and each player have to use one of the created account.

So , if you're guessing my real steam account is named 'real_one' , I have a user folder in steamapps named 'real_one' with steam content into and ncf/gcf in steamapps.
But when I copy all that on another computer and want to rename the folder user account to 'lan_1' , so the player can loggin with the account 'lan_1', smartsteam try to download some contents .For some games it downloaded Ok , and not for other. But it seems I can launch the games OO
I really don't know what's happening.

for example on 'lan_1' account , CSS redownloaded the game (even with all gcf at the good place), and then it could be launched.
If I compare the md5 of the CSS gcf of my real working personnal steam account , some files are different from the one downloaded from the 'lan_1' account...

Does this mean GCF / NCF are different for each user/account ?

Could I avoid the multiple account manipulation by only using one account , replicate all the steam/steamapps folder to all the computers, and the logging from all PC on the same steam account ?

Thanks in advance !

If your using Custom maps/Models/Materials/Sounds/Ect. and the game is GCF based (TF2, CS:S, DoD:S) then yes, the User folder real_one needs to be copied. Games like L4D 1/2, Monday Night Combat and others (NCF based) just need the NCFs and Common folder copied.

If you copy the GCF/NCF+Common files/folder, it should be a 1:1 copy. No MD5 issues.

It seems right to me too , but there's what exactly happens :
the CSS is the stock one (no maps or other thing) .
I copied the content so in this case all the GCF needed.
I verified the md5 of each CSS files and it was OK.
I renamed the 'real_one' folder of the destination to 'lan_1'
I connected using smartsteam using 'lan_1'.
Steam downloaded CSS content (a lot)
Then I compared the MD5 of the original CSS files with the new one download and most was different Oo

Have you tried validating the files (both)? See if there's something missing in those files, that can be the only reason I can think of right now.
