since there r still question on this, i made this tut for you that need help.

ok heres what u need: pick one program for your root folder:
half-life.gcf and half-life engine.gcf and platform gcf
or
cs 1.6 non-steam w/ patch 19
or
cz non-steam from my cz topic

you will also need:

1. play on steam patch

2. HL or third party mods

3. gcfscape to extract gcf's

4. Microsoft netframeworks 1.1 to use gcfscape

setting up root folderfor HL gcf's :


1. create a folder called Half-life in C:\Program Files.

2. extract half-life engine.gcf and half-life gcf to that folder

3. create a folder called platform in your Half-Life folder and extract platform.gcf to platform folder

4. apply play on steam patch to half-life folder

5. edit steamapp(u should know how by now)

ok for those who cant get it right: edit the yellow items for your steaminstallpath(this is where your Half-life folder u created is, and username and password(what u used to create your steam account)

to play half-life, make a shortcut of hl.exe from you Half-Life folder and add this line to the shorcut properties in the target line: -steam -game hl ...like this:

"C:\Program Files\Half-Life\hl.exe" -steam -game hl

1. install cz as directed in program

2. apply play on steam patch to condition zero folder

3. edit steamapp

setting up root folder for: cs 1.6 non-steam

1. install cs 1.6 non-steam as program states and v19 patch

2. apply play on steam patch to w/e root folder is ex: cs non-steam

3. edit steamapp

ok now to install Hl mods

list of HL mods

team fortress
deathmatch
opposing force
ricochet
DOD
deleted scenes

1. first u need the gcfs for each of these

or go here and d/l the game and install it to your non-steam root folder: http://www.planethalflife.com/

2. extract w/e gcf u want to have to desktop, ill use DOD as example

3. take the whole dod folder and put it into your root game folder.ex: c:\program files\half-life

4. make a shortcut of hl.exe from your root folder and add these lines to target:

-steam -game dod

-----this works for all the games i mentioned on the HL Mod list...each gcf when extracted will create a folder, that folder name is what u want to add to the shorcut target line -game (mod folder name)

examples:

opposing force: -game gearbox
deleted scenes: -game czeror
team fortress: -game tfc
deathmatch : -game dmc
ricochet: -game ricochet

ok now for 3rd party games:

examples:

natural selection
vampire slayer
sven co-op
csv15

i will use natural selection as example

1. d/l the 3rd party game u want

2. install it to your root folder.(ex:C:\program files\half-life)

3. install play on steam patch to mod folder(ex: c:\program files\half-life\ns)

4. edit the steamapp to read exactly like the one in your mod folder reads(note:yes, u will have play on steam in 2 spots, your root folder and mod folder-but they will be the same info)

5. make shortcut to hl.exe and add the target line: -steam -game ns

-----this works for all the games i mentioned on the 3rd party list...each game when installed will create a folder, that folder name is what u want to add to the shorcut target line -game (mod folder name)

examples:

natural selection: -game ns
vampire slayer: -game vs
sven co-op: -game SvenCoop
csv1.5= -game csv15
=============================================

note: play on steam patch is required in your root folder and inside every third party game mod folder, this will allow u to play on steam servers with all the mods

lol, how is this copy cat? this is basically for people who lost their steam account, so they can play all their games on it....all yours explains is for 3rd party games

well i wantd to say it worked but i have a big problem i start dod up and it comes up fine but when i click on servers nothing happens can u please help thanks

try re-extracting DOD GCF, and also check to make sure your other games in that root directory have servers listings

same thing all the mods i installed now have no server listing i guess they did something with steam or something =/

thanks for the tut mayhem, i didnt quiiiite know how to set up ns, i forgot that you had to edit the steamapp and extract no-steam patch into ns folder as well. btw where can you get the dod gcf files? are they for dl?

this tut is great, CS and DOD is working, but Ricochet isn't. It quits before loading the main menu!

make sure gcf is complete, and try re-extracting, works for me
