Here are some quotes from the steampowered.com VAC forum.

Quote:
Use a memory usage parser to check for applications using memory, I notice the usual CS:S hl2.exe application running, but looking at specific memory instructions it seems as though when loading a map an memory instruction hooks to game's process and then looks at the instructions, at least thats what I think its doing. All I can see is the game having a seperate instruction set running during connecting to a server.

Is this VAC?

VAC doesn't scan all the .exe files on your comp, just the ones that are running in memory.

Interesting information. It sounds like online play on real servers is history... (Someone could prove me wrong?) We might be going back to the days of crack > play on cracked servers, or maybe not even that. At least the CS:S Bots are very good, so all of us can just play CS:S offline... Not that big of a deal as SixSteam and Steam-Down etc. still allow you to play all the single-player games such as Half-Life 2 and CS:Source works offline....

If I were you, then I wouldn't attach too much value to Doug's statement. VAC may recieve an update in the "not too distant future", but it will be an one-time event. After the comming update, VAC will go into unattended mode again which will remain unattended for another six months . . .

When the next version of VAC comes out the update will be a one time thing but VAC will act automatically all the time, if it scans the files in memory current cracks wouldnt work due to the fact that it would blatently recognise the changed files in memory.

Of course, im not saying tis has happened, there is no word that VAC has been released.
