Check if the solutions are still working! And Yes they do! But now you have to use "base source engine 2.gcf" for source games.

So i have uploded a new d4rk.rar with updated d4rkm4nx.cfg!

To help you all out, that can´t get it to work, i have modded my EightTeam to use d4rks emu for you. So you only have to copy EighTeam.exe (from the attachment) to your Game-folder and run it.

Adde download-links for "d4rk.rar" and EightTeam(filesystem_steam.dll_fix).rar.

Don´t download d4rk´s emu from the attachment. It is not up to date. Can´t update it because of cTracker-error.

I have had some trouble with filesystem_steam.dll error some time ago!

But the only solution that can be found in this forum and that is mentioned all the time is:

Install SP2!

But this was not working for me!!

So i have searched in older topics and tried many things and i finally found an solution how to fix this error!
No, i found two solutions!

You don´t need to install the SERVICE PACK 2!

Both of this solutions are working 100%!
I tried them on many different Computers on several LANS with my own written LAN App! That uses this files for hl1 and hl2!

There are so many clients, that use the emus, so i don´t wanted to release a new one!

But maybe the existing clients (Steam Buster, Crack 360, Ratsteam, Steamripper,...) can be updated with this!!

The solution that is working for hl1 games was posted here from me some time ago in the "crack360 thread" and bug.me.not have updated his crack source files with this!

To get your hl1-game to work you have to use hcupas emu 2.33!

The file are attached!

I don´t know why it is working with this one, but it does! I tried this on many different Computers on several LANS with my privat Offline Client! That uses this files for hl1!

Credits for this are going to hCupa!!

The Emu 2.33 is no longer working for source games! But there is also an solution for them!!

D4rkm4nx has released an srcds-emu (?? think they where based on hCupas ones??) long time ago! This emu was also used by Hellboss for his Source-Server in NonSteam Down!

But you can´t only use this emus for srcds! With this emu it is possible to fix the filesystem_steam.dll error for source games!
This emu is used the same way as hCupas!
Copy the files to your game-directory! And create an shortcut with the parameters:
-steam -game (yourgame) -console

I have attached the files!!

To get this emu to work it is neccessary to set an Registry-entry!

For this creat an textfile. Copy and past this into the file:



The red text here have to point to the folder above your gcf-folder!

Rename the file to "InstallPath.reg" an double-click it!

Very important:
Your folder with the gcfs in it have to be called "steamapps"!

EXAMPLE:

Your GCF-Dir:

C:\Games\Steam\steamapps
or
C:\Games\Valve\Steam\steamapps
or
...

So the Path in the Reg-File have to be:

C:\\Games\\Steam
or
C:\\Games\\Valve\\Steam
or
...

This emu is also working for hl1-games!!

Do i have to extract the gcfs or do i need the original steam? or what is your " privat Offline Client" your talking about?
does steamemu or d4rk's emu work on a PC without any internet connection at all??

€: maybe your private offline client is "CueSteam-retro" because of this "GcfsDir=D:\Spiele\CueSteam-retro" im gonna try it

You don´t need to install the Service Pack 2!

This is why i have made this topic!

And sometimes anybody don´t want or can´t install SP2!!

Also installing SP2 doesn´t work for everyone!

So use this emus and you don´t have to install SP2!

There is no need to install SP2!!!

You don´t need the original Steam! And you don´t need to extract all of the GCFs!
Like alweays done, if you use the emus only a little extraction from the gcf´s is neccessary! To extract the needed files use for example STEAMBUSTER. Or you start the games with any cracked steam client one time, then the neede files will also be extracted into your user-folder!
And then copy in the above mentioned files!

For example:

You want to play Counter-Strike Source:

Extract game (with STEAMBUSTER,...)! No you have the Path "...\<HL2-Folder>\Counter-Strike Source".
Then copy the D4rk emu into this folder and create an shortcut of the HL2.exe! Right-click shortcut and choose PROPERTIES! Then you add the parameters " -steam -game cstrike -console"!





No Cue-Steam is not my privat offline client! My client is a self-written client that i use for my LANS!I use Cue-Steam retro to download the GCFs!

halflife2 and hl2 deathmatch work like a charm! finally, after about 6 weeks i got it to work, thx to d4rk and sillium23: no need for sp1/2!!!

only thing i could not get to work was the "half-life 2_german.gcf", meaning german speech....i added it among [HL2.EXE_HL2] as GCF07=half-life 2_german.gcf , but i did not work....

maybe because i had to remove
GCF01=platform.gcf and
GCF06=source dedicated server.gcf ????

any advice is appreciated!

P.S. although i dont know whether it works for hl1 based games i voted for "working for both"

you are right!

But for people that get the filesystem_steam.dll error and don´t want to update their WINXP it is the only way to get the games to work without any Steamclient!

And also the emporio steam.dll is causing the filesystem_steam.dll error!

Cause withe existing emus on many servers you get Steam validation rejected!!

This is not working!
I did everything u written and when i start hl2.exe there is a new message now: "Unable to load filesystem_steam.dll". U know why? Because that file is not in bin folder. What else i can do?

Then you did something wrong! Because i have tested this way on nearly 15 LAN-Partys with up to 35 Players! And i got every game to work like a charm!
Be sure that you have extracted all necessary files! The filesystem_steam.dll is in the source engine.gcf!

For example Counter-Strike source:

From counter-strike source shared.gcf you need to extract the gameinfo.txt to "GAmefolder\cstrike"

Then extract the whole source engine.gcf into the gamefolder!

And at laest from the source dedicated server.gcf the steamclient.dll into the gamefolder!

Do this extraction one time by yourself to be sure everything necessary is extracted!

Very important for the emu from d4rkm4nx is that you set the registry entry!
