CS.RIN.RU - Steam Underground Community

Okay here we go. This tutorial is mainly inspired by some tutorials I found on the web. So the main idea is not from me; I've just got the idea with the backup DVD.

You'll need the following things for HL² DVD backup.

- HL² backup DVD (just use Alocohol 120% to copy it. You just need the files from the DVD so don't care about copyprotection.
- Emporio'S CSS Source Update 5 (download it from Suprnova.org) (not the entire release, you'll just need Update 5!)
- Ape's HL² fix (download it from Suprnova.org)
- GCFScape v1.2.4 (download it from http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Ne ... ape124.exe)
- A lot of time

1) Do a copy of original HL² DVD using Alc. 120%.

2) Insert backup copy into your DVD drive.

3) Open the files "hl21.cab", "hl22.cab", "hl23.cab", "hl24.cab" and "hl25.cab" with WinRar or your favoriter unpacker and unpack their contents to your hard disk.

4. You've extracted the files to "C:\hl2copy" so now the folder "hl2copy" should contain a lot of files that have an ".gfc" ending. DELETE the file called "Source_shared_securom.gcf".

5. Open the remaining .gcf files using GCFScape and extract their content to a new directory, maybe "C:\hl2". This will take a LOT of time (maybe 2-3 hours). After you've extracted all files from the GCF files C:\HL2 should look like this: (remember that you've maybe extracted all the files to C:\hl2\root but there nothing wrong with it)

6. Take the Emporio CSS Update # 5 and unpack it to your hard disk. YOu'll just need the "bin" directory.

7. Now copy all files from your unpacked CSS "bin" directory to "C:\hl2\root\bin". It ask's if you want to overwrite => do so

8. Take the Ape fix and extract it to "C:\hl2\root\hl2\bin". It ask's if you want to overwrite Client.dll => do so

9. Go to your "C:\hl2\root" dir and left click on the hl2.exe and create a shortcut of hl2.exe on the desktop.

10. Edit your desktop hl² link and add "-steam" to it. (it should look similar to this: "C:\HL2\root\hl2.exe" -steam)

11. Now run the shortcut on the desktop, you should now be able to play Half-Life 2
and WITHOUT running through Steam and you need no CD-Key and there is no copyprotection

12. Now you can burn your "hl2" dir to a DVD-R and give it to everybody so he just needs to copy the files to hard disk. Create the link and he can play HL² without even unpacking and the other shit

my word#s i played hl² but i make this for alle the people there cant play hl²

there should be no reason they cant play......directions for set up r easy, and people still have trouble doing it right

one question:
why do i need to make a backup first of my hl2 dvd? can i also use the original and extract it?

I already returned my half life 2 but i made an iso of it using undisker. But the thing is, the only cab file in the iso is one called hl2.cab and it's 600 mb and only extracts to 2 gcf files. Is there just a program i can download so i can get this to work?

ok, but why is it better to make a copy before like you said on your first post? the files should be the same
