The chara world caps aptitude gains during the board game at 1/2/3/5% depending on difficulty. I want to make that 99% to cut down on the ridiculousness of needing 20+ runs of super overlord chara world for every character you want to max aptitude with. Do you think you could help me out with that?

I looked in the SugorokuMapSetting.dat, which is the Chara World stuff as far as I can tell, but assuming your 1/2/3/5% figures are correct, I don't see any columns that match, so I don't know where to even start with that

The rasetsu guy from the 4chan thread figured it out
It's hard-coded in the exe as C7 44 24 68 01 00 02 00 C7 44 24 6C 03 00 05 00 49 8D BE 8E F8

01 00 02 00 is demon and demon lord, 03 00 05 00 is overlord and super overlord
I am gonna change these to 25, 50, 75, 100 most likely

-- Edit --

I'm starting to think about modding the audio sources, specifically the BGM.

So i looked at the sound .dat and it's literally just a container for .wav files
it's gonna take me a while to label every .wav for every ingame song
but this way we could maybe import new BGM into D5
Like Tsunami Bomb. ANIME. LETS CELEBRATE. kek.

currently checking if a simple converted .wav will actually play ingame

-- Edit --

fuck. looks like it doesn't work, game crashes after the intro FMV
forgot to re-encrypt

lul it works
it's so easy to inject ANY bgm
I'll work up a file index later unless @grenadier has a table handy already or knows where to dump one

Haven't taken a look at anything related to the sound .dats. Looks like the sound effect one at least is a NISPACK with a bunch of wavs with IDs as filenames.

Not sure what data you're looking for specifically, though. Which music file goes to which dungeon might be in the dungeon.dat or something, i dunno

Each .wav file corresponds to a specific song ingame, that's what I mean
I figured there had to be an index of that somewhere since the songs have titles

Just finished the game and it work flawlessly. Great job people! You are the best!

I just wanted to know, is there a way to have transformed characters (like overload Usalia or Killia) in your party permanently using cheat engine and all? I want this mainly for Tyrant Valvatorez since he was a permanent character in Disgaea 4 and I don't like having him just for three turn every two battles...

I'm trying to follow Aries9 small tutorial that apparently allow us to recruit them like generic characters.

Aries9 wrote:
Here's a modification to charPersonal.dat (within database_0) that includes a personality entry for every non-already-recruitable unit: [[Please login to see this link.]]

This does NOT let you recruit them on its own; it's a fix so if you tweak the Recruitment wheel to stick a unique in there, it won't crash when it reaches the personality screen (it adds an entry "Silent (Reinc. To Fix)" to each of the 171 enemy groups (2540, 2541, etc all pull from "254")).

It will still crash if you try to reincarnate a generic into a unique, so.. don't do that. Stick to recruiting them. You can reincarnate the uniques themselves (into themselves) just fine. It'll also crash if you try to go up to a Tier 2 version of a unique (unless it's one of the rare ones that actually do have Tier 2, such as Bottlemail).

Right now it's just a compatibility fix for those of us who want to tinker around and try to hammer something (anything) out.

If you search for pattern "49 C7 06 FF FF FF FF" in disgaea5.exe using x64dbg, set a breakpoint on that command, go into the recruitment and go to "Hire", it'll freeze; go back to x64dbg, rightclick the [r14] and "Follow in dump: [r14]". The address you get sent to should be what you plop into cheat engine to swap out the Warrior with another unit (after you re-disable the breakpoint and Run again, it should say 1010 for Warrior). You'll have to do this every time you exit the wheel back to the menu - it doesn't reset if you go into Create-a-Character though, and if you finish creating a character, it remembers the memory address (still resets it back to warrior, though).

List of Units + IDs, spoilertastic

(don't bother with Usalia's Live Mom, it crashes when you go to the menu (and also her sprite is a dragon))

But I can't get it work. This is pretty advanced and I'm sort of a beginner. I get that I first must replace the charPersonal.dat file in Database_0.dat. So I got NISUnpack to unpack Database_0, but it doesn't work since apparently I must decrypt it first. What tool can I use to decrypt Database_0?

Could someone please explain me the steps to make it work just a little more detailed, it would be very much appreciated!

The decrypt tool was on page 8 or 9 or something

Also, there's a cheat engine table that does something similar without all that crap. Check the 4chan thread, busy right now sorry, lol

Thank you for taking your time to reply even though you were busy.

I found the decrypt tool but somehow I'm still unable to unpack.

And sorry but I couldn't find neither the 4chan thread you were talking about or the cheat table...

Also:
Ran into a snag with the music replacements.
Whatever loops the music doesn't actually look at how long the music files are but just loops whatever ID the music file is at after X seconds, where X has to be defined somewhere else, which is real shit, especially considering that the game constantly fails to loop music and yet when I do replacements suddenly it loops them, but wrong

I don't think loop length is defined in music.dat either, which is extremely unfortunate. At least I see no data that could represent that. Nothing in start_JP.dat seems to have anything to do with this either.
There's only a single 5~ MB file in sound_bgm_1.dat, 542.opus
542 would be the "first battle" BGM from the Makai Kingdom DLC.

So my guess is that this is hard-coded into the .exe or contained in script.dat

Replacements are still possible if you pick songs of similar length

@grenadier @aries

This would be something worth looking into. I assume that if you trace whatever happens when a BGM track loops in the music player you should find where it is coming from.

Current 4chan thread: [[Please login to see this link.]]

The first thing I'm going to do is point out that even if you recruit Tyrant Valvatorez, EVERYTHING special about him is contigent on actually having his unique 3-turn Overload activated: he doesn't get the "resurrect doods" passive ability. He does not have access to Valvatorez's skills (though they are learned), and although he does have the Tyrant skills, he cannot use them unless he has activated his overload (during which, the resurrect thing works fine). Furthermore, if Tyrant Valvatorez goes into overload, at the end of it or clearing the stage, he will be reverted back to normal Valvatorez. So, there's that. Which sucks, a lot. However, you can give him someone else's Overload (through the Assembly + postgame, such as Izuna's) and it'll work fine. I'm pretty sure they just straight-up copy-pasted Valvatorez into a new unit and changed his portrait/sprite, everything special is in the Overload.

However, yeah, all that is garbage. But what you can do is teach Valvatorez his Overload as a normal skill, which'll just let you use it on demand (and not take up a turn). A terrible workaround, but it's better than nothing. To do that, load that Cheat Engine table, go to === MAIN CHEATS === and [X] it, go to "Get Selected Item" and [X] it. Make sure your game is in Windowed mode, then go into your inventory, find a scroll you don't want or need, then click outside of the Disgaea window to the Cheat Table (if you alt-tab it will press TAB which will rearrange your inventory). Go down to "Skill ID/Evility ID" and it should have something that's not 00000000. Replace it with "00020BDD" ("02" for skill, "0BDD" for his overload skill ID), and the item in your inventory should update to be untranslated. This skill is unique to Valvatorez and will cast his current overload on himself (..so if you do it with Comet Disaster, he'll self-cast CD but it'll Miss) - all Overloads have a skill version but it's buggy if that character doesn't actually have that Overload equipped. From there, just teach it to Valvatorez, then in battle just cast it. It'll still only last 3 turns (even though you won't be in Revenge or have the Transformation particles), but you can reuse it when it wears off, it'll let him resurrect dead people, it'll let him use his special skills, etc.

If, despite all of the above, you still want to recruit Tyrant Valvatorez (for example, you think he looks cooler and you're just going to use generic skills on him), activate the cheat table, go to === MAIN CHEATS === and [X] it, go to Character Recruiter and [X] it, then double-click the <Script> next to "Replace Characters in Recruitment Screen" and change "dd #10" to "dd #790" (changes Killia to Tyrant Valvatorez), then [X] the Replace Characters. Then just go recruit him. Just make sure you don't use his overload (or if you do, swap it out for someone else's) or he'll revert back to normal Valvatorez.

On decryption:

If you decrypt a .dat file and open it in notepad the start should say "NISPACK". If not, you messed up decrypting. If so, the syntax to use NISUnpack is "java -jar nisunpack.jar filename". After that you need to use nispack which is a ruby script to repack, using syntax 'nispack -f FILENAME.DAT -c' which will pack the current directory into FILENAME.DAT - make sure you move it (or you set FILENAME.DAT to like ..\filename.dat) afterwards so if you re-pack it you don't include the packed .dat in itself.

Is there any way to make memory usage to a minimum level? When i fire up the game will usually use 40%+, but sometimes it can go up to 70%+, which make the game stutter a lot. I have 8 GB Ram.

~~Edit~~

Nevermind, if I stop Alt+Tabing it should run normally.

I found the decrypt tool but somehow I'm still unable to unpack.

And sorry but I couldn't find neither the 4chan thread you were talking about or the cheat table...
Current 4chan thread: [[Please login to see this link.]]
Current cheat table: [[Please login to see this link.]]

Thank you! This cheat table is a piece of art!

Yeah it sucks that we can't use any of his unique skills, his animations are pretty cool. But I still have the character, so it's not that bad. Right now I gave him Geese's overload. Seems the most lore friendly for him to recover his HP as a vampire.

We have the same problems with transformed Rozalin and Usalia (Awakened State) but strangely it work fine with Cursed Berserker Usalia. How can this be?

Maybe there is a workaround like a value to change that make the game consider Tyrant Valvatorez to be in a sort of permanent overload mode that let him use his skills or something?

Thank you again!

Cursed Berserker ("???") Usalia is used when you fight her in chapter four, she starts the battle transformed. Same deal as Killidia.

I have no idea where to look next for the BGM_duration stuff tbh
A lot of the cheat engine reverse engineering stuff is over my head and I am not very good at learning that kinda stuff. I still need sometimes a cheat table for the XORing

-- Edit --

I think the audio cutting off from modded in songs is some sort of conversion or packing error because it happens even for songs that are shorter than their original, which is really strange.

I thought it could be that it cuts off the last X seconds and loops back around, but.. eh?
I replaced a 2:14 song with a 4:35 song and it loops back around after 1:25 for reasons I don't understand
Another song, replacing a 3:19 song with a 2:12 and it loops at the 2 minute mark to somewhere in the song to around 0:30~0:35

What bullshit is going on under the hud with the music? If the music length was hard-coded it would look at 3:19 and just play 'nothing' for a full minute after the second.

another another song: replaced 2:27 with 4:42 and it loops at 1:30
I can't rhyme or pattern here.

-- Edit --

Not 100% reliable, but pretty reliable (someone who is in contact with NISA PR guys for giveaways and such) and the word is that the PC version won't be ready by June 24, so we are gonna wait at least another month
